REMOVAL

1. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL

CAUTION:

Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to disable the SRS system.

NOTICE:

When disconnecting the cable, some system need to be initialized after the cable is reconnected INTRODUCTION: REPAIR INSTRUCTION: INITIALIZATION (2008 Sequoia) .

2. REMOVE NO. 1 ENGINE UNDER COVER 2UZ-FE LUBRICATION: OIL AND OIL FILTER: REPLACEMENT (2008 Sequoia)+

3. DRAIN ENGINE COOLANT 2UZ-FE COOLING: COOLANT: REPLACEMENT (2008 Sequoia)+

4. REMOVE THROTTLE BODY COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY 2UZ-FE ENGINE CONTROL: THROTTLE BODY: REMOVAL (2008 Sequoia)+

5. REMOVE AIR CLEANER ASSEMBLY WITH AIR CLEANER HOSE 2UZ-FE ENGINE MECHANICAL: ENGINE ASSEMBLY: REMOVAL (2008 Sequoia)+

6. REMOVE INLET RADIATOR HOSE 2UZ-FE COOLING: RADIATOR: REMOVAL (2008 Sequoia)+

7. REMOVE OUTLET RADIATOR HOSE 2UZ-FE COOLING: RADIATOR: REMOVAL (2008 Sequoia)+

8. REMOVE FAN SHROUD (w/ Trailer Towing System) 2UZ-FE COOLING: RADIATOR: REMOVAL (2008 Sequoia)+

9. REMOVE FAN SHROUD (w/o Trailer Towing System) 2UZ-FE COOLING: RADIATOR: REMOVAL (2008 Sequoia)+

10. SEPARATE COOLER COMPRESSOR ASSEMBLY


(a) Disconnect the connector.

(b) Remove the 3 bolts, nut and No. 1 compressor stay and separate the cooler compressor.

11. SEPARATE VANE PUMP ASSEMBLY

(a) Disconnect the connector.

(b) Remove the 2 bolts and separate vane pump assembly.

HINT:

Hang up the hoses instead of detaching them.

12. REMOVE GENERATOR ASSEMBLY 2UZ-FE BATTERY / CHARGING: GENERATOR: REMOVAL (2008 Sequoia)+

13. REMOVE OIL COOLER PIPE


(a) Remove the nut and bolt.

(b) Disconnect the 3 water by-pass hose and remove the oil cooler pipe.

14. REMOVE NO. 2 IDLER PULLEY SUB-ASSEMBLY


(a) Remove the pulley bolt, cover plate and idler pulley.

15. REMOVE NO. 2 TIMING CHAIN OR BELT COVER


(a) Remove the 3 bolts, nut and timing belt cover.

16. REMOVE NO. 3 TIMING BELT COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY LH


(a) Separate the engine wire from the 4 wire clamps.

(b) Disconnect the camshaft position sensor connector.

(c) Disconnect the camshaft position sensor wire from the wire clamp on the timing belt cover.

(d) Remove the wire harness grommet from the timing belt cover.

(e) Remove the 4 bolts.

(f) Pull the cover outward, pull the camshaft position sensor wire out of the cover, and remove the cover.

17. REMOVE NO. 2 TIMING BELT COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY


(a) Remove the 2 bolts and timing belt cover.

18. REMOVE V-RIBBED BELT TENSIONER ASSEMBLY


(a) Remove the bolt, 2 nuts and V-ribbed belt tensioner.

19. REMOVE FAN BRACKET SUB-ASSEMBLY


(a) Remove the 2 nuts, 2 bolts and fan bracket.

20. REMOVE CRANKSHAFT DAMPER SUB-ASSEMBLY


(a) Using SST, remove the pulley set bolt.

(b) Using SST, remove the crankshaft damper sub-assembly.

21. REMOVE NO. 1 TIMING BELT COVER


(a) Remove the 4 bolts, timing belt cover, cover spacer and gasket.

22. REMOVE TIMING GEAR COVER SPACER



(a) Remove the cover spacer and gasket.

23. REMOVE NO. 1 CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR PLATE



24. SET NO. 1 CYLINDER TO TDC/COMPRESSION

(a) Temporarily install the pulley set bolt.


(b) Rotate the crankshaft clockwise so that the timing marks on the crankshaft timing gear and camshaft timing gears are as shown in the illustration.

HINT:

If the timing marks do not align, rotate the crankshaft clockwise again and align the timing marks.

25. REMOVE TIMING BELT



(a) Alternately loosen the 2 bolts, and then remove the bolts, timing belt tensioner and dust boot.

(b) Remove the timing belt.

26. REMOVE NO. 1 TIMING BELT IDLER SUB-ASSEMBLY


(a) Using a 10 mm hexagon wrench, remove the bolt, idler and plate washer.

27. REMOVE NO. 2 TIMING BELT IDLER SUB-ASSEMBLY


(a) Remove the bolt and idler.
